M. Phil.

The M. Phil. degree in Gandhian Studies is of one year. For admission to this course there is an entrance test and due weightage is also given to the academic merit. Further details can be obtained from the hand book of information of Panjab University. However, the admission to this course is open to those who have obtained M.A. Degree with at least 50% marks in any one of the following subjects :

(1) Gandhian and Peace Studies,

(2) History,

(3) Political Science,

(4) Economics,

(5) Philosophy,

(6) Psychology,

(7) Public Administration, and

(8) Sociology.

There is one Research Scholarship for M. Phil. purely on merit basis. The course consists of the following papers:

Semester-I : 12 Credits

Paper-I : Research Methodology

Paper-II : Gandhi's Social, Political and Economic Thought

Paper-III : (Option i) : Peace and Conflict Resolution

(Option ii) : Intensive Study of Selected Texts.

(Option iii): Rural Development with Special reference to India

Semester-II

Dissertation : 12 Credits

Post-graduate Diploma (Through Correspondence)

This course is run by the Department itself. The duration of the above course is one year. Admission to the course is open to those who have the Bachelor's Degree from any recognized University. For admission to P. G. Diploma (through Correspondence) there is a separate prospectus and the students are advised to contact the Department of Gandhian Studies directly and admission dates are notified separately in the leading Newspapers in the months of August or September. (Kept in abeyance For the Time being)

The course consists of the following papers:

Paper-I : Gandhi and the Indian Freedom Movement.

Paper-II : Social and Political Thought of Mahatma Gandhi.

Paper-III : Economic Thought of Mahatma Gandhi.

Paper-IV : Gandhi and his Contemporaries.

Ph.D.

The Department provides facilities for research leading to Ph.D. Degree on inter-disciplinary basis related to Gandhi's life, work, thought and peace studies. The University Research Fellowships are attached to this Department, in addition to U.G.C. For Enrollment the candidate has to qualify the U.G.C. NET or clear the Entrance Test conducted by the Panjab University or should be a confirmed Teacher in the University or in Colleges affiliated to Panjab University.

Fellowships. A number of Research students are enrolled for Ph.D. in the department.

Medals

1. A Gold Medal is awarded by the Panjab University to the student who tops the list of successful candidates with a first class in Post-graduate Diploma in Gandhian Studies.

2. A Silver Medal is awarded by the Panjab University to the student who tops the list of successful candidates with a first class in M.A. in Gandhian and Peace Studies every year.

U.G.C. Financial Assistance

The Department has been recognised twice as one of the Centres for Financial Assistance under the U.G.C. Scheme of Promotion of Gandhian Studies.
