| Third Batch of Global Class from 24th January 2017 |
Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh Urgent Notice All the faculty members and students including research scholars are advised to note that 14 synchronous interactions in the form of ‘Global Class’ with the Faculty members and students with the Fayetteville State University (FSU), North Carolina (USA) will be conducted at 6:30 PM (IST) and 8:00 AM (US Eastern Standard Time) from January 2017 to April 2017. The title of the Global Class is “Global Role Models: Gandhi, King and Mandela”. Selected students will be paired with students from FSU to conduct research and present on specified topics related to the title of the joint venture. The following topics of interaction will be led by Gandhian and Peace Studies faculty 1. Mahatma Gandhi as a Peace Builder 2. Understanding Gandhi 3. Challenges to the Environment and Peace Movements 4. Role of Women in Peace Movements The following topics of interaction will be led by FSU faculty 1. Historical Perspective of Civil Rights Movements in US 2. Role of Youth in Social Movements 3. Philosophical Perspective of Anti Apartheid Movement in South Africa The following topics (along with subtopics of guidance) of interaction will be for the students. 1. Understanding nonviolence and peace approaches 2. Challenges to peace/nonviolent approaches 3. The role of women in peace/philosophy of peace 4. Impact of non-peace (War) on woman 5. Efficacy of nonviolence for contemporary conflicts 6. The role of the youth in peace (could be local entities) 7. The physical, mental and spiritual effects of peace on the Peace Advocates 8. The influences on peace advocates 9. Examination of global peace movements (could be local entities) a. Chipko movement b. Occupy Wall Street c. The Orange Revolution in Ukraine (role of social media) d. African National Congress (ANC) and apartheid in South Africa e. The Tiananmen Square protests f. Bring back our Girls g. Black Lives matter h. No Bullying 10. Historical context for peace role models a. Nelson Mandela b. Anna Hazare c. Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan d. Coretta King e. Gene Sharp f. Sunder Lal Bhauguna 11. Principles of peace as conflict resolution and effective catalyst for social change 12.
